IAN and UNICEF – working together in the best interest of the child

unicef2We are happy to announce that in March we started our partnership with UNICEF, Serbia, as part of a project aimed at improving the process of implementation of correctional measures and special obligations for juvenile offenders. The project is a part of a wider initiative, financed through the IPA funds, focused on strengthening the judicial system as well as the system of social protection with a view to improving child protection strategy in Serbia.

A team of experienced professionals at   IAN Telecentre will be working with young people in conflict with the law on the territory of the City of Belgrade by providing mentoring support, professional counseling, a variety of training courses and a number of different activities designed to offer support and encourage the change in juvenile offenders` behavior.    Close collaboration and coordination with the City Centre for Social Work, Department for juvenile offenders in Belgrade`s High Court and the Prosecutor’s Office are critical success factors in effective project implementation.

Over the course of the next two years,   70 young people will take part in a variety of activities designed to help them resocialize and re-integrate successfully  into the community, make the transition back to the school system as well as encourage them to adopt positive behavior and social values.
