Workshop “Intercultural dialogue through the literature for children”


slika_064Third workshop within the cross-border project Libraries for a new age was held on 15 May 2013 in the City  Library Vukovar under the title “Intercultural dialogue through the literature for children”. At the beginning the participants were greeted by the director of the Vukovar Library Vlatka Surma Szabo, Project Manager Gordana Stankov Stojilović and the Deputy Mayor of Vukovar Danijela Stanković.

In the first part of the workshop Dragica Dragun, PhD, from the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek spoke about the Literature Interferences with Intentions of Intercultural (on the example of Jelica Belović-Bernadzikowski). In the next session, Kristian Ujlaki and Petar Lukačić from the library “Fran Galović” from Koprivnica, Croatia, presented rather interesting ways in which their library encourages social inclusion of Roma minority through its programmes and activities.  Mirko Marković, Library Advisor of the City Library Belgrade, Serbia, spoke about the Secrets of the first reading and intercultural topics with the book. Good practice examples related to this subject were presented also by Bojan Lazić, school librarian in the Primary school Negoslavci and PS Bršadin, Tijana Pavliček from the High School Vukovar and Dubravka Čapo and Anita Drenjančević from the Primary school Korog.

DSCF7133 kopija dijalogAs a symbolic end of the workshop on interculturality, Pippi Longstocking and the Indian girl Pocahontas (representatives of the host library) took us back to the childhood and time of reading the first books through an interactive travel accrss European countries and introducing the participants with the tribal wisdom of Indians and Aborigines.
At the end of the workshop the libraries from Croatia gave each of the partner libraries from Serbia a set of multimedia materials (books and CDs) promoting intercultural dialogue.
